what the heck's a Squirdfeeder?
When a squirrel climbs on one of the eight spokes in the horizontal treadle, the weight of the squirrel causes it to rotate. Attached to the end of the treadle is a screw conveyor that runs through the bird seed where it is pushed out the end of the trough and falls into the feed area below.
Squirrels learn that they must step up onto the next highest spoke in order to have seed come out the end. Even if just one squirrel lands on it, it will rotate enough for a small amount of seed to be pushed out. They learn to keep stepping up higher to the next spoke and cause the mechanism to continue spinning so that larger amounts of seed will be fed.
Once the squirrel is done eating, birds come along and enjoy the seeds of the squirrel's labor.
